Michael Tellinger Theory - UBUNTU A World Without Money

Would you live by the UBUNTU theory?

The first question I attempted to answer upon my  conducting my research was “what would happen if money never developed in our society?” One theory was “…society would split itself into various Groups/Sects based on Profession and then there would be exchange of Raw Material, Grocery, Clothe, Precisions Stones and Goods…. the people who know farming/carpentry/blacksmiths/potters etc would probably be at a greater advantage compared to others. It would be a world that would justify certain social inequalities that exist today…” (N, 2013). I feel that this could be a great supporting statement of the UBUNTU theory. Michael Tellinger says that in a world without money, everyones contribution to the world should be of equal value. In the UBUNTU community, everybody contributesto the greater benefit of all in the community. In this society, there is an overall abundane of all goods and servies because everyone is equally contibuting. Even tho there is abundance, people live not as if it is a Utopia, but simply by living comfortably and in haroney. If you could live in this society would you?

When theorizing a world without money, what would be the alternative? Since there would be no money would we use trade? An article written by Andrew Beattie says, “Bartering is a direct trade of goods and services – I’ll give you a stone axe if you help me kill a mammoth – but such arrangements take time. You have to find someone who thinks an axe is a fair trade for having to face the 12-foot tusks on a beast that doesn’t take kindly to being hunted. If that didn’t work, you would have to alter the deal until someone agreed to the terms.” This example shows that the process of bartering is one that takes time and acquaintances and knowing people well. Money however, isn’t thought about with such great detail. In conclusion this leads me to believe that using a trade system would need a lot of reinforcement by our government and many guidelines in order for the system to work efficiently. However, I believe that a trade system may be too easily manipulated and leave room for people to monopolize themselves with their trade leading to inequality of good and services to trade. Like Michael Tellinger says, trade would not work because "he who has more to barter or trade will eventually rule the roost".
